A2Z Art Gallery is pleased to present Behind the Fog, Danhôo's third solo exhibition in Paris.
Behind the tangle of multiple brushstrokes and the splash of acrylic that redefine Abstract Art, Danhôo provides us a glimpse of Chinese characters, inviting us on a peculiar journey: the one of introspection.
Due to an event that affected his personal life, Danhoo’s paintings could also be seen as therapeutic art. His works projected a vision of self-denial, the urge for reaching a stage of perfection and the struggle of daily life. His paintings cling to his Chinese roots which helps him to get out of the fog that he was immersed in. Ideograms, mark the landmarks and attachment points of his practice and his mindset, which have become entangled with each other in an explosive projection that gradually turns into organised chaos.
In 1974, Antoni Tapies told us in his book La pratique de l'art, that "when you are looking, never think about what painting (or anything in this world) 'should be', or about what many people would like it to solely be". Danhôo wants to remind us that painting is and will remain as the reflection of the viewer’s viewpoint. Painting could be said as a mirror that sublimates our soul. This self-contemplation pushes us to go below the limits that we have or beyond the ones we set aside. His painting is a game on the surface that compromises the struggle of daily life. It then turns into the fight for prosperity and a better future.
