Florian Sông Nguyen b. 1988

Born in 1988 in Clamart, France, Florian Sông Nguyen is a French-Vietnamese artist whose work explores the interstices between memory, identity, and the subtle boundaries that separate the visible from the invisible. Coming from a dual cultural heritage, he draws inspiration from the richness of Vietnamese stories and traditions while being deeply rooted in a Western context. This duality, experienced as a source of questioning and creativity, gives his work a universal dimension, capable of touching diverse sensibilities.

Marked from childhood by the orally transmitted stories, myths, and symbols of Vietnam, Florian Sông Nguyen developed an introspective and meditative sensitivity early on. This perspective allows him to address universal themes while remaining deeply rooted in a personal experience of in-betweenness, a space where identity is composed, deconstructed, and reinvented.

After studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he refined his skills in drawing and ink techniques. His choice of a monochromatic medium, often seen as minimalist, reflects his desire to accurately convey the delicacy of emotions and memories. Far from chromatic exuberance, Florian favors a pared-down approach, where each ink stroke carries a narrative and poetic intensity.

Through precise lines and controlled compositions, his works capture the elusive: fragments of unfinished stories, faces marked by the passage of time, or landscapes suspended between reality and dreams. His art, both introspective and contemplative, invites the viewer into spaces where the tangible and the imaginary intersect, offering a profound reflection on memory and identity in their most universal dimension.
