A2Z Art Gallery is pleased to present Dark Side, the fourth solo exhibition of Hom Nguyen.
As a continuation to his previous series, the French artist of Vietnamese origin Hom Nguyen reveals little by little with his expressive brushstrokes, leading the viewers to his secret garden, his hidden self and his “dark side”. Confronting his demons, it seems the faces in Hom Nguyen’s portraits are hiding and disappearing on the canvas. The freedom of the gestures and the purity of the pencilled lines pose a strong contrast with the solitude one feels when in doubt.
Every human hides, indeed, a part of their self. Once in a while in life one tries to put on a mask hoping to pretend, reassure or protect themselves. Hom’s lines symbolise, fine and fragile membranes protecting somehow the soul and emotions when facing the outside world full of dualities. The deceptive attitudes that all of us possess in society are unveiled once the curtain is down. The rhythm of the Hom’s work echoes the beating heart, and through his works we seem to be taking an emotional elevator that weavers between friendship and enmity, trust and doubt, love and hatred.
