Etsu EGAMI
Etsu Egami (b. 1994, from Chiba Prefecture) is a young artist who is currently attracting attention on the international stage in Japan, China, the United States, and Europe. Based on his experience abroad, he has continued to present works with the theme of communication, and in recent years has pursued the possibilities of pictorial expression while questioning the essence of portraiture.
Egami attempts to reconsider Japan's modernization through artistic expression in light of today's situation, in which various problems in the social and economic systems are exposed. In this exhibition, 55 homages to modern Japanese Western-style painters such as Seiki Kuroda, Ryusei Kishida, Sotaro Yasui, Van Gogh, and Renoir, as well as 11 works from the museum collection, will be exhibited. What kind of horizons of pictorial expression will Egami show us through dialogue that transcends time and space with Western-style painters of the Meiji and Taisho eras? Please enjoy the collaboration exhibition of the latest works and modern Western paintings selected by Egami himself.
